Join the Alberta Velodrome Instructor Team!
As we get set to open up programming options next month(!) at Coronation, the Alberta Velodrome Association is seeking experienced instructors and mechanics. You don’t necessarily need to be a track rider to be a part of the world-class experience being created by the General Manager, Tanya Dubnicoff! Here’s the special message from Tanya about how you can get involved:

As we count down to the opening of the Alberta Velodrome at Coronation Park Sports & Recreation Centre, we are now just five weeks away! Time is flying by, and we are thrilled about the upcoming opportunities the Velodrome will provide. It’s worth noting that the Velodrome will be the only sports facility operating in Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre until the facility’s grandĀ opening at theĀ end of January 2026. The cycling community is fortunate to have access to such a fantastic venue ahead of the winter months, and we can’t wait to see everyone on the track!

We are currently seeking experienced instructors and mechanics to join our team as we prepare for the opening on October 15th.Ā  A detailed job description will be posted shortly. If you are interested, please apply.

For those interested in coaching or instructing at the Velodrome, please note the following prerequisites that will be required:

  • NCCP Basic Cycling Skills (offered on September 20th in Edmonton)
  • Safe Sport Training (online course via the Coaches Association of Canada)
  • Make Ethical Decisions (Alberta Sport)
  • Police Background Check (self-submission)
  • Cycling Practice Planning (not required)
  • Cycling Foundations (not required)

To register for the NCCP Basic Cycling Skills course on September 20th, please visit theĀ  Alberta Bicycle Association website. Registration closes Sept 16th.Ā  Successful candidates will be reimbursed for training/education costs.

Additionally, we will be hosting a Coach Training and Certification Familiarization Session on September 27th at the Argyll Velodrome, which is open to anyone who has completed the September 20th course or already holds an NCCP certification.Ā

We look forward to seeing you at the Velodrome soon and to an exciting season ahead.

Sincerely,
Tanya Dubnicoff

Saturday Ride
Let’s head to Edgemont Landing for this week’s ride southwest of the city. It’s a longer circuit of almost 80km, to push your fitness towards taking on an Airport Fondo route.

Sunday Road Ride
Keeping with the plan of extending your rides (and fitness), Arneil has a 122km route for you, leaving from the Tamarack neighbourhood. Meet Arneil at the Tim Hortons there at 9am on Sunday for a big ride to Miquelon Lake and back.

Wednesday Hill Circuit
I will have to miss the circuit this week, but I’ve created the clockwise version of route we’ve been using lately. You can find it on the Event Page link below. Meet at 6pm in Emily Murphy Park and target at least 3 loops of the circuit. If you take at most one break per lap, you’ll be done well before sunset.

Sunday May 31: Ride cancelled due to rain and high winds.
