VCC Update – September 24, 2021

Welcome to Fall!

With crisp morning temperatures, and colourful leaves emerging on the trees, we know fall has arrived.

Weekly Saturday rides will continue as long as the weather allows. With sunset lopping minutes off each evening, though, this will be the last week of weekday rides.

Saturday Club Ride

We’ll head down to Ellerslie Road to begin our ride at 10am on Saturday. Instead of Harvest Pointe, we’ll start about 1km further east at The Hills on Charlesworth Way.

The ride takes us to the the smooth pavement along TWP 510, which should be bordered by some fall colours this week. Here’s our route:

Roger’s Harvest Ride September 26

Then on Sunday, join us at 10:30am for Roger’s Harvest Ride.

We’ll take to the trails around the Waskahegan Staging Area, east of the city. Bring your cyclocross or mountain bike. If you have neither of those riding options, bring your road bike, because some will be riding the county roads instead for about 1:30hrs.

The ride is in memory of Roger Tetrault, a long-time club member who we lost to cancer. Please consider making a donation in Roger’s name to support Skin Cancer (or any fundraising area that has a special meaning for you) at: Donate – Alberta Cancer Foundation

After the ride there will be an outdoor BBQ with burgers (beef and vegetarian options) and soda pop. Maybe hot chocolate, depending how cold the day turns out.

Non-club members can ride too this day once they’ve signed a liability waiver we’ll have available on-site. Please preregister by 5:00pm Saturday September 25 to join in this ride and help us plan food quantities. Use this >>Velo Ride Signup Form

Last of Our Monday Track Nights

We’ll wrap up our track sessions this coming Monday at 5pm. Here’s the registration form to use: >>Velo Track Night Signup Form

Last Wednesday Hill Circuit Night

As we’ve done before, we’ll conclude our Hill Nights this year starting at the Ritchie Market (76th Ave. and 96th St.). Let’s inoculate ourselves before winter with Doc Watson’s Hilly Medicine Circuit! To make sure we finish before sunset, the ride will start at 5:45pm.

Register for this ride on the form >>>HERE<<< by noon Wednesday this week.

The best trips by bike are filled with twists and turns and glorious sweeping curves.
