VCC January 2022 Update

Velocity Open for 2022 Memberships!

Despite two years of COVID messing with our best-made plans, there’s still hope that this will be the year we turn the corner!

And feeding into that hope is opening up your Velocity Cycling Club to new and renewed memberships in 2022.

The membership link is live on the Karelo website <<<HERE>>>

Velocity Covid-19 Vaccination Policy

We kindly remind you that Velocity Cycling Club has implemented a proof of vaccination policy for vaccine-eligible persons.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required for participation in Velocity programming and group activities.

We have adopted this policy to safeguard the health of our club members, their families and the community at large.

Please be prepared to produce your proof of vaccination for club programming or group activities at any time during the 2022 season. Your COVID-19 Vaccine Record can be found <<<HERE>>>

If this policy causes you any concerns, your solution is simple: please do not join Velocity Cycling Club this season.

Spring Riding Camp

After two years of cancellations, we’re holding out hope to get riding again in the beautiful Okanagan Valley.

Block some time-off to join us in Penticton for 7 days of road riding from April 24th to the 30th. Many of us plan to stay at the Tiki Shores Motel. Please call them direct to book a room in a small block we have set aside: 1-866-492-8769. Or stay where you choose and meet us each morning to depart from the motel.

Community Volunteer Opportunity

Sport Central is an Edmonton-based charity that provides sports equipment to children in our community. One of the primary sports equipment they supply are bicycles.

Volunteer bike mechanics repair/refurbish donated bikes or salvage them for parts.

Could you provide a little time as a bike mechanic for Sport Central? As needed, they will provide you the mechanical training. If interested, send me a brief email (coaching@VelocityCyclingClub.ca) and I’ll forward you more information and an application. Or you can visit their website directly to <<<READ MORE>>>

First-Ever Cycling Canada eSports Championships

Cycling Canada will be hosting the first-ever sanctioned Canadian National eSports Championship event using the RGT virtual cycling platform on March 12 and 13, 2022. The event will be open to anyone who wants to participate, but only racers with valid 2022 Cycling Canada memberships (through your provincial race license) will be eligible for official results.

Winter Cross Country Ski Meetups

If you’d rather have some “in real life” training this winter, remember Ed Heacock will be out most weekends for a few hours of cross country skiing. Drop Ed an email (heacock@telusplanet.net) and he’ll put you onto his email list for when and where he plans to be skiing each weekend.

Zwift Weekend Rides

It’s not to late to sign up for my Saturday morning Zwift Meetup rides this winter. We also use a Zoom audio session to complement the Zwift Meetup. Just put your name on my Zwift Signup Form <<<HERE>>> and you’ll get weekly invites from me. You only need to sign up once for the season and you can participate whenever it fits your own riding plans.
