Velocity / Cranky’s Race Weekend
Sad, very sad. The City of St. Albert has cancelled the criterium on Sunday. All race entry fees will be refunded.
The City cited safety concerns on the course. Hard to swallow that excuse, at almost the last minute, when the City was working very closely with our diligent volunteers to ensure the safety of all.
Thank you Kevin Coghlan, and Ed Heacock for all your hard work with the organization. You almost returned bike racing to St. Albert after nearly 40 years of absence.
We still have a few volunteer positions to fill for the Sunnyside ITT on Monday. Please find your spot listed on the VolunteerSignup Link HERE.
Registration for the ITT is open until just before midnight tonight (Thursday): https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=21216
Send Coach Kevin a quick email if you plan to race on Monday: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca
How Aero Are You??
Of course you can be faster when you’re aero. That goes for all competitive cyclists. You will ride faster with lower aerodynamic drag.
For Velocity athletes I have arranged a special testing deal with the inventors of the GIBLI real-time aero feedback system (VIEW the Gibli Pre Launch Offer).
You’ll get an individual 2hr session to review your on-bike aerodynamics using the GIBLI.
This test session will be very similar to the Alphamantis/Garmin test sessions (https://www.garmin.com/en-CA/aero/) that cost $799 for a 2hr session.
The cost for Velocity members? ONLY $100.
Why so low?
Because GIBLI is entering it’s final product testing before moving into the marketplace and needs real-world athletes just like you to validate its performance. Chief engineer and founder, Ben Bschaden is also a friend of mine, and my teammate from my old United Cycle Race Team days.
Ben will only be available in Edmonton from July 21 to 25 for test sessions.
Please book your session by CLICKING THIS SIGNUP SHEET GOOGLE LINK: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fXkk8ImFHtWPoqI69gf7cJF9vFzdPhkJD-E66-L1h78/edit?usp=sharing
Bookings and payment are due May 19.
Send any specific questions you might have directly to Ben at: bschaden@giblitech.com or phone him 1.902.579.0255.
This is the next-best opportunity to full-on wind tunnel testing. And you’ll be helping advance the development of Canadian technology in the bike industry!
Fixed Gear Fever Next Sunday
Sunday afternoon, May 26 from 3-6pm.
Either dust off your old track bike, or bring your own pedals, shoes and helmet and get set up on a club track bike.
This is a safer way to ride circles than a criterium!
Send me an email so I know how many club bikes to pull from the garage: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca
Highwood Pass Climbing Weekend
We’re still planning a 2-day weekend in the Kananskis / Banff area on June 1 and 2.
Plan to drive down on Friday evening. Book your own accommodation in the Calgary to Banff corridor.
Meet up on Saturday morning to ride the Highwood Pass. On Sunday we’ll find something a little shorter to ride before heading back home.
Please let me know if you’ll be coming: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca

If you don’t suffer the pain of hard work now, you will suffer the pain of regret later.
