Masters Road Nationals This Weekend
Victoria hosts the 2018 Masters Road National Championships, beginning today with the Individual Time Trial. Club member Brian Countryman has been training hard and consistently through the winter and spring for this particular weekend. Confident Rider Clinic This Wednesday
I’m offering our first Confident Rider Clinic this Wednesday, June 6 at 6pm, Hawrelak Park. We’ll meet in the main parking lot, on the left as you roll through the park gates.
This clinic is for any rider in about their first 0-3 years of more serious road riding. We’ll cover the following topics:
- Bike Safety Check
- Bike Fit Basics
- Low speed Agility, Balance and Control
- Braking Drills
- Cornering Drills
- Bike Handling
- Group Riding Basics for Safety and Confidence
You must SIGN UP for this session by sending me (Coach Kevin) an email at: email@example.com I will use this sign up list exclusively to keep you updated about any changes to the schedule, such as a cancellation due to weather.
This clinic is not a workout, and you won’t be moving very fast. So dress a bit warmer, for standing around. Bug spray will be a good idea too.
Enhance Your Confident Rider Skills at the Velodrome
I encourage every rider (and especially all new riders) to join the next Learn to Ride program offered at the Argyll Velodrome. This is yet another fun and valuable way to build your Cycling confidence. I promise, the group riding skills you learn at the track will make your road group riding even smoother! There is no better way to learn to ride than in the safe, controlled, closed environment of the velodrome.
Please pre-register for the next 4-week session starting Monday, June 11, 6-9pm by emailing the instructor Stefan Ritter (our current Junior 1km Time Trial World Record Holder!): firstname.lastname@example.org / Cell 587-338-0749.
The Friday 6-9pm Women’s Only Learn to Ride Programming continues for all women also looking to boost their riding confidence. Please coordinate with instructor Gail Wozny via email at: email@example.com I believe single-session drop-ins are available, but please confirm with Gail.
No track bike necessary! Our club and the velodrome have a stable of track bikes free for you to use. All you need to bring are your own pedals that can be put on the bikes for the evenings.
Spread the Word About the Club’s Sunnyside Road Time Trial
Our race organizer and club Vice President Kevin Coghlan has completed all the work, and secured the permits to run the ABA-sanctioned Individual Time Trial (ITT) on June 24 in the Bon Accord area.
This is a great “gateway event/drug” for any rider looking to try some form of bike racing. If you have any desires to race, please make plans to race the event. And spread the word to all of your riding friends wherever they may be in the Cycling community. We’ll have a Citizen category for non-licensed riders to participate. So tell your triathlon friends. Tell riders you know in the other clubs. Share this link: 2018 Sunnyside ITT
We need volunteers – of course! If you decide not to race, please consider lending a hand to ensure the event is a success for all participants. Use this link to volunteer.
