July 13 – 19 Weekly Update

Provincial Criterium Championships in Edmonton this Saturday

Take your best run at a title this weekend! Registration closes on Thursday, July 12, just before midnight. ERTC hosts this year and gives you all the details RIGHT HERE. If you’ve registered, then you must go ride the course before Saturday. Be better prepared than anyone coming from out-of-town, because the race is in your backyard!

Racing will follow the more familiar first-to-finish format (not a points race). In Track Racing, we call this a Scratch Race. Why? Well, everyone starts from scratch (nothing) and the winner takes all at the end. It’s no more complicated than that.

If you’re not racing, consider cheering your club mates on during their events.

Summer Club BBQ • Social • Club Meeting

President Ed Heacock is hosting a BBQ for all of us this coming Monday, July 16 at 18:30.

Please RSVP by EMAIL to Ed at: heacock@planet.eon.net He needs to know how much food and drink to plan for all that are coming. Ed’s backyard is at: 7231-112 St NW. All you need to bring is your own lawn chair.

I’ve posted this as an Event on the club Facebook page for your reference only. Please don’t use the “I’m Going” feature there to indicate your attendance. Email Ed.

Let’s Hope the Weather Cooperates for the NEW Saturday Ride Departure

July 7 club rideThundershowers forced us to cancel last weekend’s Saturday Ride. **Please note, even if it’s not raining, but lightning is in the area, ABA insurance rules dictate we must cancel a ride.

Even though this club ride conflicts with the Provincial Crits, non-racers should try heading out, since we missed the opportunity last weekend.

Meet in The Grange Save-On-Foods parking lot at 10am. That’s just off the Henday, at about 199 St. and 62 Ave (Callingwood Road). The ride will head south on 199 St. into the Nighthawk Golf Course area, and towards Devon.

Here’s your Strava link to my suggested ride route: https://www.strava.com/routes/14170074

Remember, I’m still in Penticton this weekend. So please keep yourselves organized out there!

Our Sunday Ride meets at the Spruce Grove Tri-Lesiure Centre for the loop north through Glory Hills.

Head for the City Hill Circuit on Tuesday evening, and Threshold Intervals from The Garrison on Thursday.

Weekend rides are now available as scheduled Strava Events – so that’s one way to keep on top of the weekends. And all club rides, events and meetings are posted to the website’s Events Calendar at least 2 weeks in advance.

Life is short, but long enough to enjoy your ride!
