VCC October 13 Update

Saturday Ride

This weekend looks to be a return to more typical fall riding weather – cool with a brisk southwest wind, but at least no precipitation. The start location will be at the Enjoy Centre in St. Albert at 10am, with the 89km route heading northwest to some new pavement leading up to Calahoo. Check out the route on the calendar link (it has some real hills in it!):

CORRECTION – AGM and Club Party on November 4

The day of the week for the AGM and Party announced last week was incorrect. It will take place on Saturday, November 4th at 6pm. The remaining details are still being worked out.

At the Annual General Meeting, we will:

  1. Approve the financial statements.
  2. Elect members to the Board of Directors.
  3. Have a club meal to celebrate our riding year together.

COVID Chronicle

This week I’ve been battling a bout of COVID. I was most likely exposed while I let my guard down travelling back from Europe last week. I didn’t wear a mask and went through more security and passport control line-ups than I had expected. Very few people around me wore masks, leading to my complacency. By Monday this week I had a very sore throat and tested positive for COVID. My wife tested positive on Tuesday.

Those who were on the Saturday ride with me last week are most likely fine, because I had zero symptoms that day, we were outdoors and I didn’t spend more than a few minutes in close contact with any of you. Nonetheless, if you’ve developed any cold-like (or more severe) symptoms yourself since then, please take precautions and a rapid test if you’ve still got one available.

Going forward, I strongly suggest you get your COVID vaccine booster shot when it’s available in the coming weeks. Though my infection has not been life-threatening, it’s still been a horrible few days so far. I’d rather not have been knocked off my feet and kept off my bike like this at all … even for a day.
