Velocity ABA Criterium Cancelled
The club was planning to host an ABA-sanctioned criterium in June on the Alberta Research Park Course. We were not able to get permission to use the course. With no suitable substitute venue available on such short notice, we’ve had to cancel the event.
If you have any ideas for alternative venues in the future, please let us know. The School for the Deaf course is only suitable July through August, when all school activities have shut down for the summer.
Edmonton Midweek Racing
The poor air quality forced us to cancel this week’s race. Please watch our Twitter feed for future cancel notifications due to air quality or any other circumstances. The ABA has a rule to cancel all riding events when the AQHI is 7 or higher. This also applies to our own club rides.
This coming Wednesday, May 24, we are the Midweek Racing hosts. Peter Sherstan, Dayton Danielson and Aaron Mumby are the volunteers. I (Coach Kevin) am the race director. Right now, we’re scheduled to host an ITT, but we could be changing this to a criterium. I’ll send out an update as soon as I know.
Long Weekend Monday Crit Clinic
There is no velodrome session this coming Monday because the track will be closed for the holiday. Instead, I’ll host a criterium clinic at the Alberta School for the Deaf for interested members. If you’ll be racing the coming Stieda Classic Criterium, you should make plans to attend.
Our best weather window looks to be 10am on Monday. If it’s pouring rain, I’ll cancel the clinic. But if it’s only light rain or wet roads, I’ll still hold the clinic. Racing would still happen regardless of rain, so a little wet cornering is still good to practice.
