VCC October 16 Update

AGM Announcement

According to our bylaws, we announce our AGM will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 6pm in the Belgravia Community League Hall, Edmonton, Alberta. Our annual club season wind-up banquet will follow. Full details and banquet tickets sales will be posted soon.

Monthly Meeting Next Week
Next Thursday, October 23, at 7pm we’ll hold our monthly meeting on-line. Watch for a Zoom link to be shared via email to all active club members.

Alberta Velodrome Certification and Accreditation

We’ve launched our brand new indoor velodrome riding this week! At least 24 riders came out for their first Certification session. Thank you all for your patience! This was the velodrome’s first “public” session, and we had a few wrinkles to iron out.

We will continue next Wednesday, October 22 at 8pm. Arrive early, by 7:30pm at the latest, so you can get your bike set up. With 24 riders, it can quickly become chaos if all are trying to grab bikes with less than 10 minutes to “on-the-rail” time!

We’ll do our best to accommodate people who might miss a session during this initial certification-accreditation series. Depending on your demonstrated ability, we may need to refer you to the public sessions on the weekend to make up any missed skill work. Though some skills from Argyll are transferable, there are many things different about a 250m indoor track. For your safety and the safety of everyone riding around you on the track, completing your certification-accreditation is mandatory for continuing participation in velodrome programming.

All the details are on the event calendar:

Saturday Ride
With the slide down in daytime temperatures, we’ll move the start time on Saturday to 11am. This week we’ll try a 62km loop leaving from Riverside Landing in St. Albert. If you’ve got time, stick around after and warm up with coffee at Tim Hortons.

Monday Strength Session
Our club has exclusive access to the resistance training equipment located in the “Cycling-D” infield area of the velodrome. There are 3 Olympic Lifting squat racks, a leg press sled, a variety of TRX cables, plyometric boxes, medicine balls and dumbbells. Bring your own routine and share the stations with your club mates. AVA will also supply the club with a generic routine to help inspire your own workouts. The area is supervised for safety, but no specific on-site coaching is planned (yet).

I will attend at least this first session to provide pointers, answer questions, and generally make sure all the logistics are as smooth as possible. Our session will be the first club session in the Cycling-D, so we could have some details to work out.

Sunday May 31: Ride cancelled due to rain and high winds.
