Alberta Velodrome Certification and Accreditation
If you miss one of our club Certification and Accreditation sessions, the AVA policy requires you to make up the missed session(s) before re-joining the club sessions. These sessions are progressive, so you can’t just miss one and then carry on.
This means, if you have missed either of the Velocity October 15 or October 22 sessions, you will need to attend one of the AVA’s public Certification sessions before you can join the club again for the October 29 session. And then, if you miss either of the October 29 or November 5 sessions, you will need to attend one of the AVA’s public Accreditation sessions to complete your Accreditation.
AVA offers the public Certification sessions on Tuesdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 11am. The Accreditation sessions are offered Thursdays at 5pm and Sundays at 11am. You can find the current Alberta Velodrome Schedule HERE.
It was great to see all you again this week and working your way through these sessions! For those who are new to the track, I’m already see great improvements in your skills and confidence. We will continue next Wednesday, October 29 at 8pm with our Accreditation 1 session. Arrive early, by 7:30pm at the latest, so you can get your bike set up and be “on-the-rail” for your Power Start at 8pm!
All the details are on the event calendar:
Interested in Becoming a Track Commissaire?
Track racing cannot happen without officials minding the racing and the rules. You don’t have to be a track rider to get involved in the world-class scene that we’re building at the new Velodrome! You can be one of our key officials instead!
Next month, with enough interest, the ABA will provide an Introductory Track Commissaire course here in Edmonton with Michael Pinkoski. And then I’m sure you’ll get some hands-on experience in the coming months during our Track League events planned about twice a month on back-to-back Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The first set of race days is currently planned for November 14 & 15.
If you think this is something you’d like to try (no long-term obligations expected), send me a brief email and I’ll tally up member interest. [email protected]
Saturday Ride
The club ride will leave at 11am from the far east end of 167 Avenue to cross the “Jason Redfern” footbridge (or should that be “bike bridge?”) for a simple 60km loop in Strathcona county. Park on the roadway, near the entrance to The Quarry Golf Course.
Monday Strength Session
Check out the calendar entry where I have now posted a downloadable copy of the AVA-provided strength routine. The Cycling-D still needs a few more things set up in it to be practical for a large shared club session. Nonetheless, I’ll be there again this Monday to lead those who want to follow the introduction to some off-season strength training.
AGM Announcement
According to our bylaws, we announce our AGM will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 6pm in the Belgravia Community League Hall, Edmonton, Alberta. Our annual club season wind-up banquet will follow. Full details and banquet tickets sales will be posted soon.
