Club Rides Suspended Until Further Notice
This week the club executive discussed the current status of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Edmonton area. They have decided to take the responsible approach and suspend club rides until further notice.
We do understand that current AHS guidelines allow outdoor riding in groups of up to 10, as long as 2m physical distancing is maintained. However, with COVID-19 hospitalizations on the increase, and the province back in Stage 1 of the re-opening status – and moving into yet another tighter direction – holding club rides is not what a not-for-profit club like ours should be doing.
The club will review the status of organized club riding at each of the upcoming monthly club meetings, with May 19th being the next one scheduled.
Please feel free to self-organize yourselves for riding with a few of your close riding friends. Please maintain 2m physical distancing while riding, unless you’re riding with someone from your own household.
Stay safe and do everything you can to stay out of the hospital.
Velocity Time Trial Race Cancelled
The executive has also cancelled the Time Trial race we were planning to hold on May 30. Current AHS restrictions forbid competitions. As the lifting of this restriction is extremely unlikely now before the end of May, there’s no point to make any further plans.
Velocity Virtual Club Season Opener
We are organizing a Strava segment for Velocity members on TWP 520, in the area of Colchester Hall and the cul-de-sac of the old Colchester School site. The idea is to test yourself and, if you want, compare your result to your club mates. How well have you done with your own winter of indoor riding or other cross-training? Find out this May. Details will be shared in the next couple of weeks.
Whatever you do, always give 100%. Unless you’re donating blood.
