September 13 to 26 Update

Big Results for Velocity at the DV100/160

Great weather (finally!) this month. It certainly helped all our club participants in the DV Gran Fondo events have excellent rides!

  • Teresa Sturgess 100km Female Team Challenge Champs!

Velocity ‘Cross Race

Fun and full of adrenaline – that’s the usual description of cyclocross racing. Velocity is working hard to hold up that tradition!

And you don’t even have to be a racer to join in the fun. Volunteers create the atmosphere too!

We host our race on Sunday, October 20, in the Strathcona Science Park.

A call-up for volunteers will be coming soon. Please lend a hand and be part of the exciting race day we’re planning!

Fall Harvest Ride in Memory of Roger Tetrault

Reserve Sunday, September 29 for our annual Fall Harvest Ride to honour the memory of Roger Tetrault. We’re planning a 2-hour social ride through the trails in the Blackfoot Park area. A no-charge BBQ will follow.

Roger was an active and enthusiastic member of both Velocity and Edmonton Nordic Ski clubs. He was instrumental in promoting the Harvest ride beginning in 2001. After his passing in 2010 the club added a cancer fund raising aspect to the ride in his honour.

Read all the event details HERE, including a link to make your own donation to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Cancer is a disease that has probably touched all of us in some way during our lives. Please consider making a donation before joining us on this ride.

Spread the word to your friends in other clubs. The ride is open to all who just want a fun social trail ride!

Club Weekday Ride Schedule

The daylight hours have faded. This past Monday was our last weekday club ride this season.

Dave “Doc” Watson took us on his full River Valley hill circuit ride. It was a challenging route that felt like riding a punchy circuit through Belgium. I’ll be thinking of ways we can incorporate this ride into a regular rotation next season.

Weekend Rides

We’ll keep the weekend rides going as long as the weather permits.

Remember, the Saturday ride now starts at the Harvest Pointe shopping complex on Ellerslie Road and 50th Street.

The Saturday ride starts 10am and heads east, looping to Cooking Lake and passing by the Olympiette Centre on the way back. About two hours and just over 60kms. Please be careful crossing Highway 21 and 14. Strava Route posted HERE: https://www.strava.com/routes/21561893

The Sunday ride is starting to show its fall colours west of town. Start 10am at the Acheson PetroCan/Truck Stop area. Suggested 70km hilly Strava Route posted HERE: https://www.strava.com/routes/19516571 Recent chip-seal activity has made some of this route feel more like gravel, so make sure you’re riding durable training tires.

Be the attitude you want to be around.
