September 6 to 12 Update

BMX Racers Head to Cochrane For Provincial Championships

It will be a full weekend of racing for our BMX members. Their season wraps up in Cochrane, with practice rides on Friday, and racing Saturday and Sunday.

We will have an update to share in next week’s post, so everyone can hear how these young athletes have been riding this season.

Good Luck at the DV100

The road season concludes this weekend with the DV100/160 Gran Fondo on Saturday. We’ve got many members riding – including Paul Ermantrout and myself on a tandem! I’ve never ridden a tandem, so this will be interesting – especially when we’ll have more than 300lbs to push up the big 6km Lodgepole climb!

Midweek ‘Cross Has Begun

We hope for better weather this year, because I think most of last year’s midweek racing got cancelled.

Use these Wednesday evening events to practice your riding skills and be ready to race Provincial events on the weekends. You only need a valid ABA club membership to participate – so even if sanctioned racing isn’t your thing yet, you can still race on Wednesdays.

More details are here: http://www.albertabicycle.ab.ca/uploads/files/2019%20Midweek.pdf

Velocity ‘Cross Race

The club hosts a cyclocross this fall on Sunday, October 20, in the Strathcona Science Park.

We’ll be looking for race-day volunteers over the next few weeks. Please keep the date open on your schedule if you can. Positions will be posted soon on a self-serve Volunteer Signup form.

Race Fee Reimbursement Reminder

As the racing season is nearing its end, members are eligible for race fee reimbursements for ABA sanctioned events only. Gran Fondo rides (including the DV100) are unfortunately not eligible for reimbursement. You will need receipts for all entries. Start tracking them down now.

Please send any questions about our full reimbursement policy to club Treasurer Paul Ermantrout: PErmantrout@Generalbank.ca

Club Weekday Ride Schedule

One more kick at the usual Monday Hill circuit this week. 6pm leaving from Hawrelak Park.

Then on Monday September 16, Doc Watson will take us on his full River Valley hill circuit ride to wind up our weeknight rides. We’ll start and finish at Ritchie Market, giving us the opportunity to sit down together afterwards at Transcend or Biera.

All rides are posted on the event calendar.

Saturday Ride Change-Up

I’ve plotted a new Saturday route to finish out our fall riding. This one starts from the Harvest Pointe shopping complex on Ellerslie Road and 50th Street – same place we used for our Heritage Day ride. This will give members the opportunity to easily meet afterwards for coffee.

The Saturday ride starts 10am and heads east, looping to Cooking Lake and passing by the Olympiette Centre on the way back. About two hours and just over 60kms. Please be careful crossing Highway 21 and 14. Strava Route posted HERE: https://www.strava.com/routes/21561893

The Sunday ride will become vibrant with fall colours these next few weeks as the season draws to a close. Start 10am at the Acheson PetroCan/Truck Stop area. Suggested 70km hilly Strava Route posted HERE: https://www.strava.com/routes/19516571

Wake up with determination. Go to bed with satisfaction.
