June 28 – July 4 Update

Welcome to Summer!

The Canada Day weekend is about to start. Are you racing July 1?

The annual Canada Day Crit runs from 9am to about 3pm in the Lendrum Community District. Registration closes just before midnight on Friday, June 28 – so you’ve still got time to enter! See the TECH GUIDE HERE. If not racing, why not ride over and check out the action? The local community league runs a fundraiser BBQ and beer garden too.

On Saturday and Sunday, head over to the Argyll Velodrome to watch the race action there – if not racing yourself.

Saturday is the 1/6th Six Day Event. Six-day racing is a European format, where 2-person teams accumulate the most laps over the course of six days of racing. 1/6th of six days is of course 1 day! The event will have a 2-person Endurance Cup, using similar, but abbreviated, six-day races. There will also be an individual Sprinter’s Cup running simultaneously.

On Sunday the Velodrome host’s the Alberta Omnium and Keirin. It’s a day of an Olympic-style 4-event Omnium, interspersed with a Keirin Tournament.

If you’ve ever wanted to watch and learn about track racing first-hand, head over to the Argyll Velodrome on either day. Events start at 9am.

No Hill Circuit on Canada Day Monday

Festivities on Monday will be on much of our circuit anyway.

Instead, here’s a 60km loop to try earlier in the day as a group ride:

Meet at 10am in the cul-de-sac by the old Colchester School Site (same place as our Thursday intervals) and ride a counter-clockwise loop east of Edmonton.

The Strava route is HERE: https://www.strava.com/routes/12664175

Club Cyclocross Bike Still Available

Great deal for someone looking for a size Small cyclocross bike. $700 for the whole package that will get you riding this fall. It’s never too soon to consider ‘cross!

Follow the directions on the PINKBIKE LISTING if interested in this deal!

Coach Kevin Riding in Penticton

I’ll be off with my family to Penticton for the next two weeks, beginning Saturday. If you’ll be in the region too, send me a message and we can try connecting for a ride! I will be back for the Pigeon Lake Road Race on July 14.

In the meantime, please load up the GPS routes planned for our rides, and encourage each other on the group rides. It’s the supportive atmosphere in clubs like Velocity that make them such great groups to hang out with.

Club Weekday Ride Schedule

All rides are posted on the event calendar.

  • NO Monday Hill Circuit. Enjoy your Canada Day festivities, which will be taking place on much of our hill circuit anyway. Try the 10am club ride earlier in the day.
  • Threshold TT intervals leave from the old Colchester School Site on Thursday at 6pm. Expect about 2hrs riding.

Weekend Rides

Weekend riding with your club mates can feel like a mini-vacation, without leaving Edmonton! No bikepacking needed for the rides we have scheduled.

Save the Strava routes as GPX files on your GPS bike computer and never get lost.
