Welcome to 2025!

After a brief break from our regular club programming, let’s get things started again.

Next Thursday we’ve got a Special Members’ Meeting planned at 7pm. The main topic is to ratify the bylaw wording regarding our new Past-President position. We approved the idea of the change at our November AGM, but we need a Special Members’ Meeting to also approve the full text of the bylaw. Our Secretary, Dave Watson, has sent out notices with the Zoom Meeting details a couple of weeks ago. If you didn’t receive it, or have misplaced that email, please send him an email to get the link: secretary@velocitycyclingclub.ca

Got 2024 race expenses to submit for reimbursement? This only applies to ABA-sanctioned races, not gran fondos nor charity rides nor any out-of-province races. Please assemble all of your supporting entry fee receipts into an email and then summarize each expense along with the full total you are claiming in the body of your email. Send them to me, Coach Kevin, and I’ll get them forwarded to our Treasurer, Paul Ermantrout. Your deadline is April 1, so please get on this soon! coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca

Keep in mind the volunteer needs your club will ask of you this year. We have two races to plan. Recently we got approval to use the Alberta Research Park venue for a criterium. And community and oil company support will continue for our Afterburner Gravel Race in Alder Flats. Please watch for more details in the weeks and months ahead as we build-out the plans for both of these races.

I’m starting up our Saturday virtual rides this weekend. Our first will be on Zwift – look for me to send you an invite. I’ll pull as many names as I can remember from our previous seasons of virtual riding. If you want to make sure you don’t miss out, first, you need to be following me on the Zwift platform (search “Kevin Rokosh” – I’m the only one on there), put “VCC” in your name to help make it stand out for me. Then I’ll send you an invite to the group ride. I’m planning something simple, for about an hour, starting at 10:35am on Saturday.

And then next week, I’m going to try a virtual ride on the TrainingPeaks Virtual platform. The platform is free to everyone with a TrainingPeaks Athlete account (free or premium version) until the end of February. Then, if you have a TrainingPeaks Premium account, it’ll continue to be free to you. For the others, there will be a subscription fee – I think in the range of $20 USD/month or $125 USD/year. This platform looks a little better organized for supporting coach-led rides. AND, I’m creating our very own Velocity Cycling Club inside TrainingPeaks Virtual, including our club kit to wear! Thanks to our own graphic designer, Mike Wichuk, for getting me the necessary graphic design I needed to send in. Stay tuned for more details about how you’ll be able to join our virtual club inside TrainingPeaks Virtual! In the meantime, go get the platform loaded up on whatever device you use for virtual riding: https://www.trainingpeaks.com/virtual/
