VCC Update February 14

TrainingPeaks Virtual Ride

Tomorrow I’ve organized a group ride for us on TP Virtual, starting at 10:35am. I think I’ve found a few of you with accounts over there and have invited you to the ride. If I’ve missed you, then use this link to find our ride to see what’s planned: https://tpvirtualhub.com/27248?accessCode=458458 As I’m new to creating and running events on this platform, I’m not quite sure how all the ins and outs of this work. You will need the access code (embedded in that link) of 458458 to sign up. If the link above doesn’t have a way to take you over to sign up for the ride, then you can find it in the list of Events in the TP Virtual platform.

Also, while you’re at this, join our Velocity Cycling Club in there too! From the main command panel, select Profile > Active Team > View All Teams and search “Velocity Cycling Club” It’s the only one on there. Select Join and I’ll get a message to approve you. Then, when you go to Profile > Avatar Display > Clothing, the Velocity Cycling Club kit will show up in your list of available options to wear.

Rucking Wednesdays

New this year is our winter mid-week Rucking Wednesdays! Curtis Roper, our Social Coordinator, has the following message to share about this accessible outdoor training alternative that will help build your endurance base fitness.

As the new Velocity social coordinator I wish to invite members to a new weeknight activity combining socializing and outdoor exercise. Over the years I have enjoyed night hiking single track trails with a weighted backpack – also known as Rucking. check out the link below for health benefits and even special backpacks and gear one can acquire. Apparently the great Fausto Coppi would hike the hills in the off season in a weighted jacket to strengthen his legs.

The Details:

Time: Start at 6pm sharp (plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early).

Where: meet in the parking lot near Panini’s Restaurant at Jasper gates Plaza (149 st and 100 ave).

Route: We will ruck across 149 street and then into the river valley heading east towards 142 st. bridge. Then work our way back in a zig-zag fashion taking in some steep single track trails and finish at Panini’s Restaurant to continue the fun, sitting down for some food and drinks if you like. Rucking time estimated at 1.5 hours. This is a no drop ride (I mean ruck – we stay together 🙂

Penticton Riding Camp

Consolidate all of your winter base training at the end of April with a week of riding in the Okanagan Valley. We’ll drive out on April 26 and return on May 4. In between, I’ll have a week of riding planned for us – volume and/or intensity, you can pick and choose how much you’d like to ride. Some of us will be staying at the good old Tiki Shores Motel (call the motel directly 1-866-492-8769 to book your room – don’t get a Studio room if you intend to cook for yourself, as it only has a microwave and hot plate). Others have been booking some Airbnb options.

Race Fee Reminder

Send in your 2024 race expenses for reimbursement. We can only reimburse you for ABA-sanctioned races. No out-of-province races nor gran fondos nor charity rides. Put all of your supporting entry fee receipts (copies of PDFs or email entry confirmations) into an email. Please total everything up and put that in the body of your email. Send them to me, Coach Kevin, and I’ll get them forwarded to our Treasurer, Paul Ermantrout. The deadline is April 1. [email protected]

Sunday May 31: Ride cancelled due to rain and high winds.
