Stay Cool and Pedal On!
Apologies for not getting this week’s update out last week. Holiday-head got the better of me!
I’m expecting nearly 40° here in the Okanagan these next few days. Looks like Edmonton won’t be much cooler! Riding in the heat adds it’s own unique form of intensity. It’s best to keep your rides easy when it’s scorching like this. Or beat the heat. Think about riding earlier in the morning until this week’s temperatures settle down. Evenings can work too, if thunderstorms aren’t looming.
ERTC Movie Night Invite
Our friends over at ERTC have invited all the Edmonton cycling community to join them Wednesday, July 10, to watch the 2023 movie Hard Miles at the Garneau Theatre. The movie tells the true story about a group of correctional institute “students” going from jail to the joys of a long distance cycling event. An after-party will be held next door at Rosso. Wednesday Hill Circuit
If it’s not too hot, too stormy, and you’re looking for some riding intensity, you’ve always got the option of the club’s midweek hill circuit. Meet at Emily Murphy Park at 6:30pm to take on Edmonton’s river valley.
Last week, the Edmonton Midweek Race Club hosted a midweek time trial. This week expect another shootout group ride/race. Unless they take the night off to go watch Hard Ride with ERTC. Check the EMRC website for this week’s details.
Edmonton Omnium Track Meet – Sunday July 21
Coming soon is a little track meet for all ability levels. The plan is to run a couple of endurance events – a Scratch Race and a Tempo Race – plus a couple of power events – a Flying 200m, seeding into the fast action of Keirin Racing! Once this event has been finalized, I’ll get more details sent out.
Watch your inboxes later this week for my regularly scheduled weekly update. I’ll get it composed on time, in between dips in Lake Okanagan!
