VCC April 13 Update

Amazing start last week to our club riding! We had at least 30 people out for the ride.

This weekend’s weather looks good again. I’m going to be teaching the Learn To Race Clinic on Saturday, so it’s going to be really important this time around to have a few club members willing to help as Ride Leaders. Your basic duty is to keep some general organization in your group and know the basic route so no one gets lost or left behind.

This week the ride will start from the Olympiette Centre and ride east, through Antler Lake and back. The Event Calendar entry has both the Strava Route as well as the generic GPX file to import to any route-capable bike computer.

Our April rides all start at 11am, to allow the day to warm up some before the ride. In May, this time will switch to 10am.

Please see all the details and sign up on our Event Calendar entry:

Whatever kit you’re looking for, get your order placed during this time window to secure the best pricing for yourself, and everyone else in the club. Prices reduce at the quantity 6 and 25 order volumes of each item. You’re assured the best pricing based on the quantities in place at the end of the ordering window.

Spring Riding Camp

Next Wednesday I’ll host a brief Zoom meeting for everyone that’s told me they’ll be joining us in Penticton. I’ve collected everyone’s email so far. If you’re going and haven’t told me yet, drop me an email: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca. Then watch your email for the Zoom meeting link.

Edmonton Mid-Week Racing

If you haven’t heard yet, the network of our Edmonton cycling clubs will be hosting Wednesday night racing this season!

These are low-key training races (time trials and criteriums) for all ability levels. It’s the easiest way to start racing without committing to a (sometimes) expensive weekend ABA-sanctioned race. And for you racers with some (or a lot of) racing experience, these are excellent workouts and your opportunities to test your fitness and tactics against your buddies.

It also means Velocity will be stepping in for 3 races to provide basic volunteer support. We don’t need to be the race director (a few of us local coaches are volunteering for that job) but will need to provide some simple marshalling support.

Our support dates are: the ITT on May 24 (3 people needed), a Crit on June 21 (4 people needed) and another Crit on June 28 (4 people needed).

Please check your calendars and volunteer for one of those dates. Email me: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca

Monthly Club Meeting

Next Tuesday, at 7pm, the club will hold its monthly club meeting via Zoom. If you’ve signed up as a 2023 member, you’ll receive an email with the Zoom link to attend. If you want to know the current status of the other areas of the club, or to discuss with the executive anything concerning you about the club, please join us. All members are welcome.
