VCC November 6 Update

Velodrome Accreditation Complete

Patience please as each of your AVA profiles gets updated to the fully Accredited status. It should happen today or tomorrow I believe. Then the booking system should start allowing you to book Beginner Track Builder, Open Track and the Learn To Race weekend on November 14 and 15.

This next Wednesday you’ll have guest coach Ken Germaine leading the session (I’ll be away). We have a straightforward pace line session planned to help further build your confidence riding in groups.

Remember, you need to pre-register so we have a proper attendance list for safety and security. All the details of our own sessions are on the event calendar:

Velodrome Locker Requests
We have 6 bikes in the locker now. It can hold at least one more. When we reach more than 7, we’ll start a rotating lottery system for those who want to use the club locker for storage. You can also always request your own locker rental, but don’t leave that too late as they are filling up fast.

No Saturday Ride
It’s looking like snow tomorrow … I think that’s a wrap for the outdoor riding season. But stay tuned anyway. Sometimes we get another window to ride outside in November.

Monday Strength Session
The group is on it’s own this week. You’ve had a few sessions to understand the workout we’ve been following. If you download the Excel spreadsheet and/or print it out, I’m sure you’ll get through the circuit fine without me this week. The workout is posted on the calendar entry:

AGM Announcement

According to our bylaws, we announce our AGM will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 6pm in the Belgravia Community League Hall, Edmonton, Alberta. Our annual club season wind-up banquet will follow.

Tickets for the banquet are on sale NOW on Zone4. Final numbers for our caterer are due NEXT FRIDAY. We might be able to accommodate a few late sales, but no guarantees. Head over to the entry on our Event Calendar for more details. An agenda for the AGM will be available soon.

Track Commissaire Interest
The ABA is running a Track Commissaire course, with the first session being held virtually. I’ve already sent details to a few of you. But it’s not too late for others to join in too. Here are the details from James Kendal – Executive Director | Road, MTB, CX , Gravel + Para Inclusive:

We’re pleased to announce a Track Commissaire Course now scheduled with Michael Pinkoski. This course represents an important step forward for Alberta’s cycling community as we enter a new era with the opening of the indoor velodrome. Michael’s international experience brings exceptional value to this training, especially in understanding the unique conditions and requirements of officiating on a 250m indoor track.

To help encourage participation and support the growth of the new facility, the ABA is waiving course fees. Building a strong base of trained local officials is essential to the long-term success and sustainability of track racing in Alberta.

This course also offers a valuable opportunity for coaches to deepen their understanding of competition formats and the rules that govern track events.

Course Details:

  • Introductory C Training: Tuesday, November 25 | 6:00–9:00 PM
  • Practical Training: Friday, November 28th 5 PM – 9 PM (classroom and Track League)
  • Practical Training: Saturday, November 29th 9 AM – 11AM followed by track league from Noon to 4 PM
