VCC November 13 Update

Learn to Race — Practice. Pedal. Podium.

So, you’ve got your AVA Velodrome Accreditation. Ready to dip your toe into racing… or sharpen your skills before next season?

The Learn to Race weekend is the perfect mix of learning, fun, and friendly competition.

Here’s what to expect when you roll in:

  • Registration covers both days of racing
  • About an hour to warm up and get those legs humming
  • A quick group chat before each event to walk through what’s coming
  • Race formats announced in advance so you can plan your moves
  • Feedback and debrief after each event to help you grow

The goal? Learn by doing — in a safe, supportive, semi-controlled environment.

Riders will be grouped by comfort and skill level, so everyone can push their limits confidently.

Expect a few surprises, lots of laughs, and a chance to see what racing’s all about.

Come for the thrill, stay for the fun… and maybe even hit the podium.

Monday Strength Session
Keep yourself moving off-the bike with access to the weight training centre in the velodrome’s Cycling-D area. Our reserved access is from 7 to 8pm on Mondays.

Wednesday Velodrome Session
And of course, keep honing your velodrome riding skills and build your winter endurance with our Wednesday evening track session. We’ll keep working on our pace line skills this week.

AGM & Season Wind-Up Banquet — Saturday, November 22

We’re wrapping up another great year of riding together!

Join us for Velocity’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Belgravia Community League Hall in Edmonton.

Right after the AGM, we’ll roll straight into our Season Wind-Up Banquet… a chance to share a meal, swap stories, and celebrate everything we’ve done together this year.

Banquet tickets are on sale now on Zone4!
Our caterer needs final numbers by this Friday, so please grab your ticket soon. We might be able to squeeze in a few late additions… but no promises!

Check out all the details on the Event Calendar, and stay tuned — the AGM agenda will be posted soon.

If you’re new to the club, come meet the crew and see what we look like without helmets and in our street clothes!

Need Track Gear?
Local cycling shop Cranky’s will start stocking track chains (they are a slight different size that a road chain), cogs and chainrings. Most of the gear will be on the less expensive side of the spectrum. Only their Unity Square location (11212 104 Ave NW, Edmonton) will carry the stock to begin with. I’ve no idea if their stock has arrived yet, so check with them before you head over there.

Sunday May 31: Ride cancelled due to rain and high winds.
