Velodrome Accreditation Nearly Complete!
Three sessions down and just one to go!
Make sure you arrive early – once again – this coming week. I’ll get my pre-session pep talk going about 10mins prior to our on-track time of 8pm. We’ll make sure everyone gets through the bow-tie drill and completely through session 4 before the night is done.
All of you that have completed our first 2 sessions are Certified(!) and can now join the public Beginner Track Builders sessions to keep building your skills.
After getting your Accreditation (completing session 4 with us, or on your own in the public session), you’ll be ready to move on at your own pace. That could be staying with the public Beginner Track Builder sessions, if you want more supportive coaching through the basics. For the near-future, our own weekly sessions will be geared towards those who have enough confidence to at least ride in pacelines, similar to the bow-tie drill in session 3. And for those who are looking to ride more on their own program, you’ve always got the Open Track sessions to choose from.
Head over to the Alberta Velodrome website and scroll down to the “Book & Register” button to view the schedule and links to the current programs on-offer. If a separate program link doesn’t look obvious, try clicking on an entry on their calendar. As the AVA tools up their staff and programming, you’ll see even more track riding opportunities in the coming months! Watch for some multi-week Track School programs coming soon!
All the details of our own sessions are on the event calendar:
Velodrome Locker Requests
The club has secured access to a dedicated bike locker inside the Alberta Velodrome, exclusively for our members. The locker can hold up to seven (7) track bikes, so space is limited.
To help us manage access fairly, you’ll need to complete a Locker Request Form. Once approved, you’ll receive the current lock combination via email. If capacity is reached, a lottery or rotation system will determine access.
Track Commissaire Interest
I’m happy to announce that there’s enough interest for the ABA to run the Introductory Track Commissaire course mentioned in last week’s update! Stay tuned for the date that I’m sure will be announced soon. If you don’t see it yourself, give me a poke and I’ll let you know if I’ve heard anything. You can expect me to announce it here in a weekly update as soon as I know when it’ll be offered.
Saturday Ride
With no snow yet in the forecast, we’ll give the Saturday club ride at least one more chance. This week it’ll be a shorter 50km loop, leaving at 11am from Edgemont Landing near Cafe Aria.
Monday Strength Session
If you’re stepping back into “off-season” strength work, the club’s Monday Strength Session in the Cycling-D is a good place to start. Follow the basic routine the AVA has provided us or get to work on your own routine. Equipment and space is a bit limited, but we’ve still got room for more people to participate.
AGM Announcement
According to our bylaws, we announce our AGM will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 6pm in the Belgravia Community League Hall, Edmonton, Alberta. Our annual club season wind-up banquet will follow.
Tickets for the banquet go on sale November 1 on Zone4. Head over to the entry on our Event Calendar for more details. An agenda for the AGM will be available soon.
