VCC May 11 Update

Weekly Rides All Scheduled

Our full slate of rides are underway this season. Monday Track Night. Wednesday Midweek Racing. Friday Hill Circuit. Saturday Club Ride. Sunday Rule V Ride. All details and routes are posted on our Event Calendar.

The Saturday Club Ride has the most “social” focus. Please keep this in mind when you come out to ride. If you are new to the club, this should be your first riding experience with us.

Also, we have a single ride club trial available for the Saturday ride. The posted ride details on our Event Calendar will have a Liability Waiver link that you must print out, sign, and bring with you to the ride.

Last Minute Ride Updates

We use our Twitter account, @VelocityBikeAB, to send all last minute updates about our rides. If the rain forecast is 60% or greater, the ride will most likely be cancelled (except the Rule V ride … because HTFU). Our Track Session will be cancelled if the track is still wet from rainfall earlier in the day, not just based on the short-term forecast. And with wildfire season upon us too, watch for severe air quality warnings to cancel rides.

Not a Twitter user? No problem! Our website homepage has a full feed of our most recent Twitter updates. You can always check there to see what’s happening. I try to call off any ride no less than 1hr before its scheduled start, with 1.5hrs beforehand my actual target.

We’ve filled all our Midweek Racing volunteer positions! Thanks everyone who raised their hand.

Stieda Classic Race Weekend – May 27-28

Are you racing either of the events (road race and criterium) during the Stieda Classic Race Weekend? Please let me know. I’d like to at least have an online meeting beforehand to answer your questions and provide some tactical team advice.

Just send me a brief email with your intentions to race: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca

2023 Road Nationals

Do North Events is holding a panel discussion on the Legislature Grounds at 1pm Sunday, June 25, during the Elite Road Race events. It’ll be a fun panel discussion on the best type of bicycling: road vs. gravel vs. mountain bike.

Would you like to be Velocity’s rep on the panel and share your “expert” knowledge? Let me know and I’ll forward your name to the organizers: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca

And of course, you can volunteer during Nationals in other ways too. From June 23 to 26 event organizer Do North Events needs volunteers to make this a successful weekend for racers and everyone in the city.

Volunteers will receive a uniform for the event, snacks and refreshments and meals depending on shift time, as well as an exciting opportunity to take part in this amazing event.

To volunteer or to inquire about further details, please contact Julia or Aleksandar at volunteer@donorthevents.ca or 780-919-1727.
