Dates to Remember

ReconciliACTION Ride

Coming up next weekend, on October 22, I’m leading a ReconciliACTION Ride for Wenjack. This is a full imperial century (100 miles) ride from St. Albert to Lac Ste. Anne and back. It is one way to appreciate the great lands the First Nations and Métis peoples have shared with us through Treaty 6. It is also an opportunity to learn some of the residential school history of St. Albert, and acknowledge the traditional Indigenous gatherings that have taken place at Lac Ste. Anne even long before the colonizers arrived. And finally, but by no means least, it commemorates the life of Chanie Wenjack who died of exposure and starvation on October 22, 1966, when he tried walking 600km back to his home. Riders will be encouraged to donate $1/km to the Downie Wenjack Foundation to further the sharing of Indigenous history with all of us. Please read more on the event link: ReconciliACTION Ride for Wenjack.

Outdoor Season-Ending Social

With COVID still a risk for large indoor gatherings, the club will hold an outdoor event on Saturday, October 29, in a suitable area of Hawrelak Park. Plan on a hot lunch, served at about 12:30pm. Cost will be $5/person and $10/family. We’ll hold this event instead of our last Saturday ride. But, we encourage enthusiastic members to actually ride to the lunch! More details will follow.

Annual General Meeting

The 2022 Velocity Cycling Club AGM will be a virtual meeting on November 28 at 7:00 pm. More details to follow including agenda and positions to be filled.

This Saturday’s Ride

One more time on the west side, to see what fall colours are still out there. Leave from Edgemont Landing at 10am for a slightly different loop than last week.

Sunday Rule V Ride

With yet more warm weather in the forecast, there’s no reason not to keep riding outside!

The Rule V Ride meets 10am at The Enjoy Centre in St. Albert.

Wednesday Night CX Worlds

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but the mid-week racing has concluded for the season. But weekend provincial ‘cross racing continues! Check the ABA website for the remaining races.
