September 27 to October 3 Update

BMX Season Summary

What an incredible season the BMX team had this year. Velocity BMX race team sent eight riders to Toronto for the Canada Cup Nationals.

Our YEG team proved it has some big talent! Each rider came away with a National placing plate including a National 1 and several top 6 finishes!

Throughout Alberta this summer, 16 Velocity BMX riders competed in five Provincial series. Everyone learned to have nerves of steel as they raced in the unprecedented Alberta weather!

All racers improved their rankings, with eight finishing top eight for Alberta.

Going into next season, the Velocity BMX team has some very talented riders … from the top 7-year-olds in Canada, to up-and-coming Olympic hopefuls.

We now turn our attention to Worlds in Houston, Texas, next May. Let’s put Canada on the map for BMX Racing!

Indoor training begins as soon as the snow flies in Olds. Could that be as early as this weekend??

Alberta Cyclocross to Crowns Provincial Champs

With the snowy forecast in southern Alberta this weekend, expect the Provincial Cyclocross Championships in Canmore to be characterized by word: EPIC!

Be careful driving down, because dangerous winter driving conditions are forecast as early as Friday afternoon.

Good luck to everyone racing! I think tire pressures will be your secret weapon to staying upright on-course.

Fall Harvest Ride in Memory of Roger Tetrault

Join us on Sunday, September 29 for the annual Fall Harvest Ride to honour the memory of Roger Tetrault. We’re planning a 2-hour social ride through the trails in the Blackfoot Park area. A no-charge BBQ with a warm-up bonfire will follow.

We’re hopeful for clear skies in our region on Sunday. The temperatures might be cool, but the fellowship of a ride to honour Roger will help to keep us warm.

If this weather system moving into the province knocks us for a loop, we’ll consider rescheduling the ride. Stay tuned to the club’s Twitter account on Sunday morning if we make any changes to the plans for the day.

Read all the event details HERE. Please consider making a donation to the Alberta Cancer Foundation – the donation link is https://giving.albertacancer.ca/velocityharvestride.

Laura Tetrault needs to know how much food to buy for the BBQ. Please send her an email by Friday, September 27, to tell her you’re coming: lmtetrault@gmail.com

Club Weekday Ride Schedule

Just a reminder that weekday rides have wrapped up for the season. This gives you more time to train for ‘cross and attend the final midweek cyclocross race. The last midweek race is this Wednesday, October 2.

Weekend Rides

With our Harvest ride planned for Sunday, we’ll only have the Saturday ride this weekend – with hopes that the nasty weather stays well to the south. We’ll keep the weekend rides going as long as the weather permits. Watch the Twitter account for cancellation announcements.

The Saturday ride starts from near the Servus Credit Union in the Harvest Pointe shopping complex. Leaving 10am, it heads east, looping to Cooking Lake and passing by the Olympiette Centre on the way back. About two hours and just over 60kms. Please be careful crossing Highway 21 and 14.
