July 5 – 11 Update

Provincial Masters Road Championships

Safe racing vibes to all club members racing the Alberta Provincial Masters Road Championships this Sunday, in Madden.

Crankmasters always hosts a great event, also known as the Stampede Road Race. Your race day isn’t done until you’ve had their post-race BBQ Beef on a Kaiser! The perfect Alberta Cyclists’ recovery meal!

And Who Could Miss the Grand Depart on Saturday

Three weeks of distracted mornings (or delayed PVR viewing later) begins on Saturday, with the 106th edition of Le Tour de France!

This year us Canadians have someone strong to cheer for: Mike Woods. And with Chris Froome out, and still a question mark hanging over last year’s returning champion Gerant Thomas, I think this will be one of the more exciting Tours to watch.

If you’d like to learn about a few interesting numbers from past editions of Le Tour, then please read the article I wrote: 24 Astounding Tour de France Numbers.

Pigeon Lake Road Race Returns Next Sunday

Last year saw a return of ERTC’s Pigeon Lake Road Race to the ABA racing calendar. It was a small field, for what was once the biggest race on the ABA calendar.

Let’s continue to help re-establish this Alberta road racing tradition. I call on all our club racers to LEARN MORE AND SIGN UP.

I’ll be returning from Penticton just in time to support our members at the race in the feed zone. Please email me if you’re going to be racing this event: coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca

Confident Rider Clinic Coming Soon

The Confident Rider Clinic for club members only will be held on Thursday, July 18, 6pm.

This clinic is a basic cycling skills session for newer riders in the club. No need to attend if you’ve taken an ABA Learn To Race Clinic, or attended the session I held last year for the club.

I’ll hold this session at Inglewood School Park, 11515 127 St NW, Edmonton. Expect about 2hrs of drills and a bit of discussion.

Please email me if you plan on attending. I need at least 3 riders to make this worthwhile for all. coaching@velocitycyclingclub.ca
