August 9 to 15 Update

No Matter How Short or Long … How Hard or Easy … Just Ride

Road season will be over before we know it. With only a few events remaining – races and fondos – it might be time to put the bike computer in your pocket, and just go for a ride.

But if you’ve got cyclocross racing on your mind … training in earnest begins now. Time to start brushing off those all-important mount/dismount, barrier navigation and off-camber cornering skills. Hit the parks and trails to get your technique on-form.

September and October are packed with ‘cross events every weekend. Velocity will be hosting our own event on October 20. More details and a volunteer call-out will be coming.

Club Weekday Ride Schedule

Our mainstay weekday rides will keep your fitness tuned to the end of summer.

All rides are posted on the event calendar.

  • Monday is Hill Circuit night. Leaving from Hawrelak Park at 6pm. We’ll ride Zoo Hill and the Legislature Grounds.
  • Threshold TT intervals leave from the old Colchester School Site on Thursday at 6pm. Expect about 2hrs riding.

Weekend Rides

Our weekend rides will maintain your endurance. If you’ve got a fondo planned – like the DV-100 or Whistler Gran Fondo – a good idea is to add an extra hour (or three!) to one of the rides.  Consider riding out-and-back from home to add the extra distance.

The Saturday ride starts 10am at the Olympiette Centre. Two hours, about 60kms. Strava Route posted HERE: https://www.strava.com/routes/20365444

The Sunday ride tends to be hillier, harder and faster. Starts 10am at the Acheson PetroCan/Truck Stop area. 70km hilly Strava Route posted HERE: https://www.strava.com/routes/19516571

Coach Kevin on Holiday

This weekend I leave for a two-week trip to Italy! My second week will including some riding in Tuscany. Really looking forward to the adventure and hope to have some destination ride tips to share when I get back.

I’ll be away through the next 3 weekends of riding. Please ride safe together. Red tailights on. Bells and safe passing if on city bike trails. Be helpful to each other – like our group on this past holiday Monday ride. One pothole created 3 flats and a slipped handlebar setup. We needed a little bit of team work to get it all sorted out. Part of belonging to Velocity brings out this sense of mutual support in everyone. It’s fantastic to see!

Being nervous isn’t bad. It just means something important is happening. – Michael Jordan

NEW this year! We're trying out Link My Ride for sharing weekly ride details.
