Afterburner Gravel Success!
Weather-wise we had a prefect day for all the gravel racers. We awarded the Provincial Gravel Championships to Kelsey Duffield in the Open Women and Clint Perret in the Open Men. The top 50+ Woman was our own Teresa Sturgess, and top 50+ Man was David Marshall.
We couldn’t have done this without the tireless coordination of our race director Ed Heacock. Jason Redfern’s company TDH Fluid Systems donated a whack of swag prizes purchased via Pedalhead Road Works. Mike Wichuk did all the Tech Guide design for us. Course set-up, tear down, in-race logistics and post-race BBQ were supported during the event by a long list of volunteers: Mary Heacock, Nathan Forsyth, Jim Wiley, Gordon Heacock, Randy Murchison, Bruce Russell, Ian Rokosh, Allan, Heather and Chris Plesniarski. And to top it all off, the Alder Flats Legion helped us serve the post-race BBQ and beverages.
We’ll be back to host again next year!
Saturday Ride
The ride on Saturday will leave 10am from Edgemont again and will be almost 80km long. It will cross Highway 60 using Woodbend Road both directions. Please be extra careful crossing this highway, as it can be busy at times.
I’m helping run the ATB Cycling Group’s private fondo this Saturday, and then I’m off on a family trip to Poland. So I won’t be around to lead our next few weeks of rides. But I’ll still be doing all the planning and communications for you nonetheless.
Wednesday Hill Ride Has Wrapped Up
Our hill circuit, and all other weekday rides have wrapped up for the season.
Coming Up Soon – Roger’s Harvest Ride
Our annual fall ride and social event in honour of the late Roger Tetrault will take place as our Saturday ride on October 5. Riders beyond just our club are welcome to join as we continue to raise some funds in support of cancer research in Alberta. Spread the word to your friends and family. Please sign up through our Event Page, so we can make appropriate plans for the post-ride BBQ.
