VCC May 22 Update

Track Session Start Monday

With the indoor velodrome expected to open to cyclists this fall, now is your best opportunity to sample some “fixed gear frenzy!”

Bring your helmet, shoes and pedals on Monday for our 6:30pm start. We can get you set up on one of our club’s loaner-bikes. I’ll tell you all about Track Cycling, and introduce you to the basics of riding the track. Get yourself started on the outdoor Argyll Velodrome. For those of you who have done this before, it’ll be a good refresher night because you probably haven’t been on the track since last season.

Also, Randy Murchison, our equipment manager, is looking to have any outstanding club equipment dropped off at our Argyll storage for review and inventory. If you’ve got something still sitting around in your garage or basement, please drop it off with us during this Monday’s session, or any of our sessions this season. This doesn’t include our club tents, but does include everything else. If you’re not sure if what you have belongs to the club or not, just ask Randy via email: [email protected]

Saturday Ride
We’re moving the start time to 10am this week! Summer-like temperatures are on their way, so no need for any more delayed starts waiting for the day to warm up. I’m teaching a Learn to Race Clinic on Saturday, and will need a couple of you to step up and be Ride Leaders for this club ride.

Head to the Ardrossan Rec Centre once more this week for a 63km ride. This one includes the small hill north of Highway 16. This hill has a 10% grade in the middle, and will split the groups, even if you are riding to a reasonable Rate of Perceived Exertion. Please be kind and re-group at the top. The route then loops down past the Olympiette Centre and back to Ardrossan. Watch out for the potholes in both directions on the Highway 16 overpass! Find the ride route here:

Sunday GRAVEL Ride
We have a new ride planned for the next 2 Sundays. Meet Jason near the main entrance of Millennium Place in Sherwood Park at 10am. He’ll take you over some gravel roads leading north to Fort Saskatchewan and back. The planned 82km route is here:

Tuesday MTB Ride
No MTB ride this week. Watch for a start with Justin from Terwillegar Park next week – joining in with the $5 Fat Tire Tuesday racing if people want.

Wednesday Hill Circuit
Join us for another road ride to stretch your climbing legs. We’ll continue with our start from Emily Murphy Park at 6:30pm.

Velocity Criterium
Our race is only 2 weeks away! Please meet your annual volunteer commitment and lend a hand on Sunday, June 8. Take a look at where you can help out on our Volunteer Signup Sheet.
