May Regular Riding Begins
With summer-like temperatures on the way, the regular weekly rides will launch!
The general weekly schedule will look like the following:
- Monday: Track Night. The first session will be Intro to Track on May 26 with a tentative 6pm start time. If you are new to fixed gear riding, and want to get a start on the action before the indoor velodrome opens later this year, now is your time to try! This first session will cater to everyone new, as well as those we need to re-acquaint themselves to the velodrome. The club has a fleet of track bikes, so all you need to bring are your own shoes and pedals.
- Tuesday: MTB Ride with a Capilano Park start at 6pm on May 13. Justin Unrau will shepherd you around on the river valley trails. The plan will be to move the start location from month-to-month and let you master different trails throughout the season.
- Wednesday: Road Urban Hill Circuit. Our first ride will leave from Ritchie Market at 6:30pm on May 7. We’ll stretch out our legs on Doc Watson’s Hilly Medicine Circuit. Similar to the MTB ride, the plan will be to move around this start location on about a monthly basis too.
- Thursday: Track League. Watch or race. Come on out and show your support for the last season of outdoor Track League! Details will be posted on the Argyll Velodrome website. Expect the first night of racing to be about May 15th.
- Friday: Off. Everybody needs at least one day off from programming!
- Saturday: Club Endurance Road Ride. Posted as usual to our club Event Calendar as well as LinkMyRide.
- Sunday: Long(er) Road Endurance (2 weeks in a row) led by Arneil Delasan from a start location TBD (likely in the southeast). Alternating with a Gravel Ride (2 weeks in a row) led by Jason Redfern from Millennium Place in Sherwood Park. Watch for future updates when and where we will launch the first of this new weekly Sunday adventure in May.
Rides will be cancelled if it’s wet, raining, imminent rain expected or the Air Quality Index is 7 or higher. If you’re unsure of the ride status, all effort will be made to post a timely update to the Announcement Bar that will appear at the top of our website on both desktop and mobile versions.
Saturday Ride
With the sudden arrival of summer-like temperatures, the rides will now start at 11am. By June (maybe sooner if these temperatures continue), the rides will start at 10am. But for now, we move to 11am. Check out this week’s plan:
Velocity Criterium
This year we can return to the classic South Edmonton Research Park circuit! Mark Sunday, June 8, on your calendars. As usual, none of these events can happen in our cycling community without the support of club volunteers like you! Please take a look at where you can help out on our Volunteer Signup Sheet.

Argyll Track Learn To Ride Program
If you just can’t wait until later in May when our track sessions start, the Alberta Velodrome Association hosts its own comprehensive 4-week Learn To Ride Program. They need at least 5 registrants to launch a session. The first option will begin Saturday, May 10. Put your name on their Expression of Interest Form and choose the May sessions (or any of the others that make the most sense for you).
