VCC June 26 Update

Edmonton Bike Park Pending

The following is a special message from EMBA:

After years of design, fundraising and community input, the Edmonton Bike Park is ready for Council’s final thumbs-up on Wednesday, July 2. All the funding is in place and shovels are waiting—Council just needs to hear that you support the plan.

What we need from you
1. Write a short, positive email (three sentences is perfect).
2. Send it to [email protected] no later than Monday, June 30. The City Clerk forwards every note to the Mayor and all 12 Councillors.
3. (Optional) CC your own Councillor (Email list below)

Subject: Please vote YES for the Edmonton Bike Park on July 2

Dear Mayor and Council,

I live in Edmonton and fully support the Edmonton Bike Park.

Please vote YES on July 2 so construction can begin this summer.

Thank you,
[Your Name]
[Neighbourhood & Postal Code]

That’s all—no detailed talking points needed, just your clear support. Every single email is counted and recorded. A flood of simple “Vote YES” messages will show Council how much Edmontonians want this free, inclusive recreation space. Thank you for taking 60 seconds to make a lasting difference!

Ride on,

Saturday Ride
We’ll return to the Ardrossan Rec Centre for the next couple of rides. This will keep long-weekend highway crossings to a minimum – HWY 16 will be crossed using the overpass. I’m away the next couple of weeks. Please download the route, and select Rider Leaders for each group (break up into at least 2 speed groups, especially if there are more than about 10 riders). No one gets left behind on our group rides.

Sunday Ride
Arneil will lead the Sunday road ride again, reversing the course of last week’s Coal Lake loop:

Monday Track Night
Even though I’m away, Randy Murchison will coach our next 2 sessions. If you’re knew to the club, please know that Randy has a number of years experience coaching Monday night sessions at the track. Don’t miss this opportunity to return to some of Randy’s favourite drills!

This should be our last Monday session at 7:30pm. In July we will be moving to 6:30pm starts. To get the most from the evening, you can always show up about 30mins ahead of time to get your club bike set up with your own pedals and be ready-to-ride at our scheduled session start time.

Tuesday MTB Ride
No scheduled MTB ride this week since it’s the July 1 holiday today.

Wednesday Hill Circuit
Even though I’m away, and not leading tonight, we’ve been doing the full circuit of: 4x Zoo Hill; 2x Emily Murphy; 1x Victoria Park Road; and 2x Fortway Road up to the Ledge Ground transit station. Find your clubmates in Emily Murphy Park at 6:30pm.
