Velocity CX This Saturday
Come on down to Argyll Park this Saturday and watch Alberta’s best cyclocross racers test themselves (and their tire pressures) on a gnarly ‘cross course laid down by our club’s race director Jason Redfern. I know some of you will be racing too, so best of luck! And as many of the rest us have volunteered to help Jason put on a great day of racing for everyone, we haven’t scheduled an organized club ride on Saturday.
Then, on Sunday you can either head back to Argyll to watch (or race) in the Provincial CX Championships on a similar course, but hosted by Pedalhead Road Works, or you can join some of us on my annual …
ReconciliACTION Ride
October 17 to 22 is know as the “Secret Path Week,” a national movement commemorating the legacies of Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack. October 17th and 22nd respectively mark the dates that Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack joined the spirit world.
The Downie Wenjack Foundation invites all people in Canada to use Secret Path Week to answer Gord Downie’s call to action, to Do Something to move reconciliation forward.
Since October 2021 I’ve been riding my 163km ReconciliACTION ride as a time to reflect on the Residential School history of these Treaty 6 lands we ride across every day. I make a donation of $1/km ridden to the Downie Wenjack Foundation, to help them continue their work building cultural understanding and reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples.
This is a uniquely difficult ride, for emotional as well as physical reasons. It is purposely unsupported, in solidarity with the self-supported journeys that some First Nations children tried to endure as they attempted to runaway from the schools and back to their families.
I have two ride options, the full 163km to Lac Ste. Anne and back, or a shorter 112km version to Onoway and back. You can learn more, and decide if you’d like to join me this Sunday, by reading the event description:
