VCC August 29 Update

Afterburner Gravel – Spread the Word!

Afterburner Gravel Next Weekend
Your club needs a few extra hands next weekend to put on a spectacular gravel event for riders and racers. If you’re not riding (hmm, maybe you should??) then we still need about 12 volunteers to help out.

Find a spot you can fill on our Volunteer Sign Up Form

Check out our Instagram account where you can Like and Share any of the promotional posts over the next few days and help boost the event to any gravel enthusiasts you might know. And of course, feel free to create your own posts and point people to our Event Calendar, where they can read what’s happening! Make sure they all know that registration closes on Wednesday, September 4.

Success All-Around at the Airport Fondo
This year the winds prevailed at our backs (well, until the final 10km) giving the Jumbo Jet 247km flyers an average speed of about 33kph! We didn’t have any 737 riders, though a few of the Cessna riders added some extra klicks back around the Olympiette Centre to put them within a few kilometres of a full standard century by the time their day was done.

Mechanicals were few and everyone finished the day strong. Congrats to all for staying on top of their nutrition and hydration, finishing with smiles on their faces!

If you’re thinking about riding this next year, your training should start this winter. Give yourself a long-term goal to consistently hop on your indoor trainer.

Saturday Ride
Sunny warm skies open up for some long weekend riding. I’ve got another Ardrossan to Fort Saskatchewan route planned this weekend.

Sunday Gravel Ride
I’ll throw this one out there, in case anyone needs a little gravel inspiration again this weekend. Why not head to the circuit west of the city for the ride from Carvel? Follow the suggested route, or improvise something a little different with your GPS skills.

Track Nights Done for 2024
With this Monday being a long weekend, the track is closed. And then, we start running out of enough daylight to keep going through the rest of September. Thanks to all of you who came to ride this season. We’ve still got next year to ride at Argyll, but maybe in the fall, we can start riding INDOORS!

Wednesday Hills
The CX Wednesday Worlds will be at Capilano this week. If you’re not so good at running and navigating barriers with your bike, then join the rest of us for the club hill circuit. Meet in Emily Murphy Park at 6:30pm. This will probably be the last regular hill circuit, followed by Doc’s Hilly Medicine ride the following Wednesday to close off our hill circuit rides this season, because … ‘cross is here.
