Club Meeting Next Thursday
Watch your email for a Zoom link to join our club meeting on Thursday, August 15, at 7pm. Our president Brad Streadwick says it shouldn’t be too long a meeting. It will at least be a chance to start final preparations to host the Provincial Gravel Championships at our Afterburner Gravel event, which is only a month away!
Saturday Ride
For anyone riding this year’s Great Canadian Fondo (previously L’Etape Canada), this ride will be a little preview of the area the event is covering. And at only 66km, the ride will leave you activated for the event on Sunday. We’ll meet at the Ardrossan Rec Centre, head up to Fort Saskatchewan, and then over to Josephburg. A few of these roads will also be used on the Jumbo Jet version of our Airport Fondo, 2 weeks away.
Sunday Gravel Ride
Weather and non-smoky skies look to be on-offer this weekend. Take advantage of the day on Sunday, and go far in the opposite direction of the Great Canadian Fondo. The gravel option this weekend will meet west of Pigeon Lake at Yeoford Corner (RR 31 and TWP 470).
Track Night
We’re back on schedule for our track sessions (weather permitting) at 6:30pm on Monday. Tonight will focus on Power/Sprint riding.
Wednesday Hills
Use the river valley hill circuit and your clubmates to push yourself a little harder this week. Meet in Emily Murphy Park at 6:30pm for our 1.5hr circuit.
Midweek Race
If you don’t hear from me first, then check the Edmonton Midweek Racing Club website www.emrcracing.com to see what’s up this week. Racing usually starts at 7pm.
Airport Fondo Just 2 Weeks Away!
Get your mind ready to circumnavigate the city if you choose to ride the Jumbo Jet version of our club’s Airport Fondo. That’s 242km with a following sag wagon for supplies and a bail-out if you need it. There are also shorter versions that don’t encircle the city, if you’re not trained for a HUGE ride. We have the imperial century 737 Route (162km) and the metric century Cessna Route. Choose your distance now and get your name registered for the route you’d like to try:
