The annual climbing camp is back for 2017. Less of a camp, and more about having fun riding in the mountains with friends. The group usually splits into two, with choices between a long 110-150 km ride and a shorter 60-100 km ride each day. Many years have also included a mountain bike option if the trails are good, so feel free to bring both bikes and mix ‘n match your pleasures. Interested in going? Where: Whister’s Campground in Jasper, Alberta
When: June 2-4, 2017. Ride Saturday and Sunday. Travel at your discretion, usually out Friday, back Sunday.
What: 2 beautiful days of cycling in the mountains. Saturday night club dinner
Who: You, the Velocity Cycling Club members!
How: Sign up on Zone4 by Monday, May 29th at 11:59pm
Arrival: Friday evening, June 2nd
Rides: Starting a 10am both Saturday and Sunday, ending in the late afternoon
Community Dinner: 6pm, Saturday evening
Departure: Sunday afternoon (Ride will be finished at approximately 3pm)

We have booked 5 campsites in Whistler’s Campground for club members to use that can be booked and paid for through Zone4. Each campsite can fit up to 2 tents.
Of course, You are welcome to share the campsites with other people attending camp, but you are responsible for arranging those details!
You may also book your own accommodation if you like, but if you do that or are staying in a campsite booked by someone else, you still must sign-up online for the climbing camp so we know who is coming.
Update: All five campsites have now been paid for. If you’d like to share a site with someone, please let Stewart Wyllie know to make sure there’s room for everyone as there are only two tents allowed per site. You can make arrangements to split the cost of the site with the person who originally paid for it on zone 4
Transportation: Transportation is on your own. Please carpool if you can.
Meals: We will be having community dinner on Saturday night. The club will provide carnivorous and vegetarian meal options, but we ask that each person (group) provides a salad or dessert to share.
The club will also provide some snacks and ride food, but you will be responsible for organizing your own breakfasts and lunches.
Day 1 Route(s) – Saturday, June 3

Details: We will be riding to out to the beautiful Maligne Lake on Day 1. There will be at least two route options with a longer 112km route starting from the Whistler’s Campground and a shorter loop beginning at the start of Maligne Lake Road. The route is an out and back, so don’t worry if these route looks like a little intimidating! There will be plenty of opportunity to turn around.

Day 2 Route(s) – Sunday, June 4
Start Time: 10am

Details: Climbing day! All the routes will start together at Whistler’s Campground and climb to the top of Marmot Basin first before splitting of and tackling a few different routes (see below)
The Big ‘un: Feeling optimistic about your spring training? Well, then this one is all for you. 148km, 2 massive climbs, and over 2100m of elevation. See the route here (tentative).

Maybe you are newer to the sport or maybe you simply aren’t masochistic. Either way, this challenging route will take you to the top of Marmot and back again without adding all that other stuff on the end! See the full route here (tentative).
