Weekly Update: June 13-19

** The Route Maps for Saturday and Sunday have been updated! Please note that Michael will not be there to lead the ride on Saturday since the Classic of Highlandia Criterium is also going on**

Another successful climbing camp is in the wraps. We had 24 people out and got in a great couple days of riding in Jasper. So great, in fact, that I feel there is the need to hand out some arbitrary awards to deserving recipients.

  1. The “Sandbagging” Award goes to Paul for tricking us all by “toodling” his way up to Maligne Lake before laying down viscous attacks all the way home.
  2. The “You Wore What?” Award goes to Stewart for his incredible commitment to the camelback. Although forbidden by Rule 32, I’ve decided to let it slide because he crushed it all weekend.
  3. The “Keeping it spicy” award goes to Reg for, well, keeping it spicy out there. Must be the speed skating influence.
  4. The “biking is fun” award goes to Beth for indisputably being the most joyful person on the trip.
  5. The “Killer Clydesdale” Award goes to …. heck, how can I name just one? If climbing is not your forte but you came out anyways, glad we could have you!
  6. And, of course, the “Coach of the year/decade” award goes to Randy for making sure that every single person out there had clothes they needed, food to drink, and someone to ride with all weekend.

In other news, Terra and Micah smashed it at the Kicking Horse Cup and Terra ended up taking home the women’s title. Nice work both of you!

As for our rides this week, we’ve stopped having our Learn to Ride Clinics, but I would strongly encourage anyone who was doing the LTR clinics to come on out to our Urban Hills Night on Tuesday or, if you are up for a slightly longer workout, our TT/Threshold Night on Thursday. You should all start getting excited for the Mountain Bike Skills and Drills clinics that will be starting on June 21 and lead by Janet Liu!

Lastly, don’t forget that the (run by former coach, Shaun Adamson) is quickly approaching and looking like it’ll be a lot of fun. They are looking for volunteers, so if you want to help them put this race on, you can sign up here!

  1. Award #6 Update: Many of you may not know it, but Randy has been a strong contributor to the club since its inception (really, our Club By-Laws were enacted on September 13, 1983 and it’s Randy’s signature on the bottom!). So let’s call it “coach of the three-decades”, just for a little more accuracy! Thanks for your help Randy, we wouldn’t be what we are without you.
